Muay Thai Training Guide

Last updated: 27 July 2026

White Elephant Fitness is a Muay Thai coaching and personal training business based in Tonbridge, Kent, run by Danny Richards, a Level 3 Personal Trainer. This guide explains what Muay Thai training involves, who it's suitable for, and what to expect from a 1-to-1 session or group class in Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and the wider Kent area.

What is Muay Thai?

Muay Thai is a striking martial art from Thailand that uses punches, kicks, elbows and knees, alongside clinch work. As a fitness discipline it builds strength, cardiovascular conditioning, coordination and mental focus, making it an effective full-body workout as well as a technical skill to learn.

What a session involves

Sessions are personalised to the client's goals and ability. Complete beginners start with stance, footwork and basic striking mechanics, while more experienced students progress to combinations, pad work and clinching. 1-to-1 sessions run 9am to 9pm, seven days a week, from £35 per hour, and group sessions run every Sunday from 9am to 10am at £10 per class.

Benefits of training

Regular Muay Thai training improves cardiovascular fitness, builds functional strength, supports weight loss, and develops discipline and confidence. Because coaching is tailored 1-to-1, clients progress at a pace that suits their fitness level and experience, whether training for fitness, self-defence, or general skill development.

Getting started

No prior experience or equipment is required to begin — just training kit, trainers and water. Sessions take place at gyms across Tonbridge and Kent, and can be booked directly with Danny to find a time and location that works for you.
